Where Do the Mosquitoes come From?

Mosquitoes can be a real pesky nuisance to humans. Especially if you sit outside on your patio - but also inside the house. But where do they come from? Mosquitoes come mainly from outside. They rest over the day under the leaves in shady humid, and windless locations. From here they start their search for a prey.
So, if you catch the mosquitoes outdoors you will get them before they reach your patio. Therefore, to fight mosquitoes on a long-term and in a sustainable way, it is important to work with efficient outdoor mosquito traps.
If you are bothered by mosquitoes also inside, an additional indoor trap such as the BG-Home can help.

Biogents Outdoor Mosquito Traps

Biogents has developed several outdoor traps for sale:

On the one hand suction traps that target those mosquitoes that want to bite you and search for a bloodmeal. Here we offer the BG-Mosquitaire which is especially effective against the Aedes mosquitoes such as the Asian tiger (Aedes albopictus) and yellow fever (Aedes aegypti) mosquitoes which can carry the Zika virus, dengue, and chikungunya fever. To control also other mosquito species such as the floodwater mosquitoes and house mosquitoes, you can upgrade the BG-Mosquitaire with CO2. The combination of Biogents special mosquito attractant, the BG-Sweetscent and CO2 also increases catch rates for the tiger mosquitoes and all other mosquito species.

On the other hand the outdoor mosquito trap BG-GAT which targets those tiger mosquitoes that want to lay their eggs. The trap imitates a breeding site. With each female you catch with this trap, you can prevent a further generation of mosquitoes. The best effect you can achieve when you combine Biogents suction traps (BG-Mosquitaire or BG-Mosquitaire CO2) with the BG-GAT trap.

Frequently Asked Question

Where is the outdoor mosquito trap best placed?

Mosquito control traps are best placed in shady, humid and windless areas since these are the places where mosquitoes tend to rest over the day. You can experiment by starting with placing Biogents outdoor mosquito traps under bushes or the trees in your yard. This means you can bait and trap mosquitoes before they have the chance to reach the patio and bite you.

You can further choose the placement of your outdoor mosquito trap by trying to find out by which kind of mosquitoes you are bothered:

The day active tiger mosquitoes come most probably from somewhere on your own property. Tiger mosquito females utilize flower pots, bird baths, soda cans, buckets, plant saucers, plastic drainpipe extensions and many other human-made water holding containers as sites to deposit eggs. Tires are particularly useful for mosquito reproduction as they are often stored outdoors and effectively collect and retain rain water for a long time. Eggs, which can resist drying out, are deposited above the water line in containers subject to flooding.
Try to avoid these breeding sites. If it is not possible, then place a trap nearby.
You can choose the BG-Mosquitaire trap and/or the BG-GAT trap. Ideally combine both traps.

House mosquitoes love to breed in rain barrels, watering cans left standing around, clogged drains, ditches, garden ponds, or puddles. If you can not cover them completely or regularly empty them, also here is a good place for the trap. It is best to choose the BG-Mosquitaire CO2 trap.

If you are bothered by flood water mosquitoes which come from the woods or flooded areas nearby, it is best to build up a barrier between the flooded area and your property. So try to place the mosquito control traps at the border to this area to effectively control and reduce the mosquito population in a sustainable way. It is best to choose the BG-Mosquitaire CO2 trap.
