Background information on artificial human skin scents

Biogents developed artificial scents that mimic human skin odors. Using special formulation technology and scent dispensers, attractant components are released in precisely the right amounts to produce a finely tuned mixture of scents which increase the capture rates of mosquito traps especially for Ae. albopictus and Ae. aegypti.

BG-Sweetscent can increase catch rates of many traps for Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus

The BG-Sweetscent is the first attractant targeting Aedes aegypti and Ae. albopictus that has been tested in scientific studies to work with many different mosquito traps: Scientific studies show that using our attractant BG-Sweetscent in a variety of commercially available mosquito traps can increase catch rates of mosquitoes that transmit diseases like dengue, Zika or chikungunya.

Two studies from independent organizations in Florida and Louisiana showed the effect of the BG-Sweetscent on different traps with similar study design:

BG-Sweetscent is effective for up to two months. It comes as a sachet filled with three attractive components in granular form, and offers the following features:

a natural emission pattern – the release pattern of the cocktail of active molecules is designed to resemble the natural emission of human skin odors protection against environmental influence – the waterproof envelope allows a diffusion of the components through the membrane, and at the same time the components are protected against rain, humidity, and light excellent emission profile – the components are formulated into special polymers that provide a controlled release of the active ingredients

The BG-Sweetscent consists of polymer particles that provide a uniform mixture of the components.
