A Grassroots, Spray-Free Approach to Fewer Mosquitoes
This effort builds on the neighborhood-led initiative to reduce mosquitoes across Capitol Hill and surrounding areas. Biogents provides the traps used throughout, designed to support a spray-free,
community-based approach.
How This Approach Works
We're on a mission to reduce mosquito populations in a way that's effective, safe, and environmentally responsible.
Why Tackling Mosquitoes Together Makes A Difference
Mosquitoes
Stay Local
In neighborhoods like Capitol Hill, most mosquitoes remain within a few hundred feet of where they hatch—often staying within the same block.
Control Works Best When Coordinated
Because mosquitoes move between nearby homes, efforts limited to a single property are less effective than a coordinated approach across the neighborhood.
Populations Decline with Participation
As more households across DC neighborhoods participate, mosquito populations can decline over time — helping reduce overall biting pressure.
In a community-based pilot study conducted in nearby University Park, MD, led by researchers from Rutgers University, coordinated trap use across more than 500 households led to a significant and sustained reduction in Aedes mosquito biting pressure.
Targeting the Mosquito Nuisance in DC
These are the species most commonly encountered—and the ones this approach is designed to reduce.
(Aedes albopictus)
Asian tiger mosquito (Aedes albopictus)
Primary daytime biter in DC neighborhoods
- Bites aggressively during the day, especially in shaded outdoor areas
- Breeds in small containers (planters, gutters, standing water)
- Stays close to where it hatches, often within the same block
- Can transmit viruses such as dengue, chikungunya, and Zika
This is the invasive species most responsible for nuisance biting in areas like Capitol Hill.
(Culex pipiens)
Northern house mosquito (Culex pipiens)
Most active in the evening and at night
- Bites primarily at dusk and after dark
- Breeds in standing water such as drains, catch basins, and pooled water
- More noticeable later in the day and overnight
- Known to transmit West Nile virus
(Aedes aegypti)
Yellow fever mosquito (Aedes aegypti)
Daytime biter with similar behavior to Aedes albopictus
- Bites during the day and prefers feeding on humans
- Breeds in small containers near homes
- Lives in close proximity to people and residential areas
- Can transmit viruses such as dengue, Zika, chikungunya, and yellow fever
A Smarter Way to Control Mosquitoes
By mimicking how mosquitoes locate humans, our traps capture them when they’re actively searching—before they can bite or reproduce.
Precision Targeting. Proven Results.
Biogents traps and attractants are developed based on decades of research into mosquito biology and behavior, using scent, visual cues, and airflow that specifically attract mosquitoes. Rather than relying on broad-spectrum insecticides, this targeted approach focuses on host-seeking and egg-laying mosquitoes—helping reduce mosquito populations without impacting beneficial insects like bees and butterflies.
Irresistible to Mosquitoes
Recreates the signals mosquitoes follow to find you—so they go to the trap instead.
Stops the Next Generation
Attracts egg-laying tiger mosquitoes by simulating a breeding site, preventing hundreds of eggs from hatching.
No Pesticides
Safe for kids, pets, and pollinators—no sprays or gimmicks required.
Proven by Science
Backed by scientific research and real-world testing to deliver measurable mosquito control.

Two ways to Reduce Mosquitoes
Biogents offers two complementary solutions—one reduces mosquito populations over time, the other protects you from bites right away.
You can start with either and build over time.

Living in an area where mosquitoes are usually relentless, I was skeptical at first—but this trap really delivers. Within days, I noticed a significant drop in mosquito activity, and now I can actually enjoy spending time outside again without constantly swatting bugs.
If you're looking for a safe, effective, and environmentally conscious solution to mosquito problems, this trap is absolutely worth it. It's been a game-changer for my outdoor space, and I'd highly recommend it to anyone dealing with persistent mosquitoes.

“How does a mosquito find its host? And what can you do about it?”
Answering these seemingly simple questions was the work of Dr. Martin Geier and his colleagues at the Institute of Zoology at the University of Regensburg in Germany. More than twelve years were put into both the analysis of the composition of scents and odors that were attractive to mosquitoes and finding the key factors that influence the behavior of these important disease vectors.
The primary motivation behind this research was the application of the results: to develop better methods to control mosquitoes in an intelligent, environmentally safe, and targeted manner. Biogents develops and produces patented mosquito traps which exhibit capture rates that are read more..

Location, location, location! Works amazing in the right spot!
Location, location, location! I started out by placing them in different areas around my yard. 24 hours later i checked them all, and quickly learned what locations worked best. So the key is keeping an eye on the traps and moving them around to find where is the best placement! I'm honestly shocked how many mosquitos it caught in just 1 day!
If I could give more than five stars I would!
If I could give more than five stars I would! The Mosquitaire catches so many mosquitoes it’s insane! It did take a little trial and error of finding the correct spot to place it, but once I got it set up properly I was stunned at the results! If you are on the fence, don’t be. The product works!
Best system ever
I have had this for a year and I couldn’t be happier. I’m a mosquito magnet and the combo of Mosquitaire and GAT are very effective. I had seen that at a friend house in Europe and it was the first time I wasn’t bitten by mosquitos. I was so happy I could find this in USA and the product from Biogents is very effective in the Texas summer. I highly recommend.
Love the Mosquitatoe!
Love the Mosquitaire! Since putting it in our back yard, with CO2 tank, I’ve caught over 10 mosquitoes per day. See attached picture of the latest harvest from the past 5 days, which has over 50 mosquitoes, adults and juveniles.

Frequently asked questions
Will this eliminate all mosquitoes?
No solution can eliminate every mosquito, especially since new mosquitoes can fly in from surrounding areas. However, using multiple traps together—like combining the Mosquitaire with the GAT—targets different stages of the mosquito lifecycle. The Mosquitaire attracts and captures host-seeking mosquitoes, while the GAT targets gravid female mosquitoes looking to lay eggs. For the best results, it’s also important to think beyond a single yard. Mosquito control works best as a community effort—when neighbors reduce standing water and take steps to control breeding sites, overall mosquito pressure drops significantly. Together, this combined approach can greatly reduce mosquito populations over time.
How long does it take to see results?
Most customers should expect to see results gradually, not overnight. Because mosquito traps work by interrupting the breeding cycle and reducing the number of biting adults over time, noticeable improvement may take several days to a few weeks depending on mosquito pressure, weather, and placement. In areas with heavy infestations, it can take longer to achieve a strong reduction. Consistent use is key to long-term success.
Is it safe for kids and pets?
Yes, the trap is designed for outdoor mosquito control without spraying insecticides into the air, which makes it a family-friendly option for use around kids and pets when used as directed. As with any outdoor device, it should be placed in an appropriate location and handled according to the product instructions. Keeping the trap properly set up and out of reach of unsupervised children is always recommended.
Do the traps require maintenance?
Yes, regular maintenance helps keep the trap performing at its best. Maintenance may include checking the catch area, cleaning components as needed, replacing attractants or refills, and making sure the trap remains properly positioned and powered. The exact maintenance schedule depends on the model and how heavily it is being used, but routine upkeep is simple and important for consistent results.
