How Biogents BG-GAT trap works

Meet the BG-GAT
The BG-GAT (Gravid Aedes Trap) is a simple, passive, no-power trap designed to catch female tiger mosquitoes looking for a place to lay eggs. Mosquitoes that bite and those that lay eggs are two different groups, each with different behaviors. The BG-GAT mimics a good breeding site, but it does not attract mosquitoes looking for a blood meal since it lacks the signals they seek, like carbon dioxide (CO2), heat, or body odors.

Our unique capture method
- Female Asian tiger and yellow fever mosquitoes are attracted by water and oviposition cues and enter the transparent chamber through the black funnel.
- Once in the chamber, mosquitoes try to escape through the translucent windows where they are captured when they contact the surface of the sticky card.
- The mesh provides a barrier between mosquitoes and the infused water in the lower bucket.
- The sticky card in the transparent chamber will kill the mosquitoes.

Trap features
Begin using early in the season and operate continuously day and night throughout the mosquito season.
- Low-cost
- Easy to set up and deploy
- No power supply or attractant required
- Targets mosquitoes that are looking for a place to lay their eggs
The BG-GAT trap was developed by Dr. A. E. Eiras from the Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais, Belo Horizonte, Brazil, and Dr. S. A. Ritchie from the James Cook University, Cairns, Queensland, Australia. Biogents produces and distributes the trap under a license agreement with both universities.

Positioning the BG-GAT
Mosquitoes don’t fly far—only a few hundred yards—so they usually stay in areas with plenty of water, resting spots, and food (nectar for energy and blood for reproduction).
- Remove any other standing water in your yard, like buckets, plant saucers, tarps, and clogged gutters.
- Drain black plastic downspout extensions regularly—mosquitoes love breeding in the grooves.
- The BG-GAT works best when it’s the only available breeding site.
If your neighbors also use traps, the effect is even greater, reducing mosquitoes over a larger area. Over time, this helps create a more mosquito-free environment for everyone.

BG-GAT Mosquito Traps Double Set
Reduce tiger mosquito reproduction with the BG-GAT (Gravid Aedes Trap), a low-cost, non-electric, and easy to use outdoor tiger mosquito trap. It complements the BG-Mosquitaire mosquito trap by targeting mosquitoes that have already bitten and are now searching for a place to lay their eggs. By imitating a breeding site, the traps help to stop future generations of tiger mosquitoes by catching the females before they lay and hatch their eggs. This sustainable trap works without power, insecticides or CO2, and it has been tested and proven effective worldwide.
