Reduce tiger mosquito reproduction with the BG-GAT (Gravid Aedes Trap), a low-cost, non-electric, and easy to use outdoor tiger mosquito trap. It complements the BG-Mosquitaire mosquito trap by targeting mosquitoes that have already bitten and are now searching for a place to lay their eggs. By imitating a breeding site, the traps help to stop future generations of tiger mosquitoes by catching the females before they lay and hatch their eggs. This sustainable trap works without power, insecticides or CO2, and it has been tested and proven effective worldwide.

Placement & Usage

For maximum catch rates, the correct placement of the trap is essential

In order to get the highest catch rates, test different locations!
The BG-GAT mosquito trap is to be used outdoors in the garden. Place the trap on the ground near resting areas of the mosquitoes, e.g., in shady, wind-protected places with high humidity such as in sparse shrubs. However, the trap should not be too hidden, but still visible. Do not place the trap directly on the terrace/patio and not in direct sunlight.

For efficient and sustainable mosquito control it is necessary to avoid competition between the BG-GAT trap and other breeding sites. Therefore, remove or empty competing breeding sites, such as flower pots, vases, buckets, water barrels, rain gutters, discarded cups and bottles, and plants that hold small quantities of water.

Additional information

The BG-GAT trap was developed by Dr. A. E. Eiras from the Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais, Belo Horizonte, Brazil, and Dr. S. A. Ritchie from the James Cook University, Cairns, Queensland, Australia. Biogents produces and distributes the trap under a license agreement with both universities.

FAQs

What does GAT mean?

GAT is short for Gravidas Aedis Trap

What does BG-GAT do?

It targets tiger mosquitoes that are looking for a place to lay their eggs. Each egg-laying female that is trapped can eliminate 50-100 offspring from the next generation and prevent the potential for disease transmission from virus-infected mosquitoes. With these two strategies, you can reduce biting pressure as well as the next generation of tiger mosquitoes.

Does the BG-GAT require power consumption?

The BG-GAT tiger mosquito trap does not need any electrical power at all.

Where do they lay their eggs? And how many do they lay?

Each female lays between 30 and 300 eggs. Culex lay their eggs in "pods" on the surface of the water. Tiger mosquitoes lay their eggs on a moist substrate at the water's edge.
Enhance your mosquito control by eliminating breeding sites: Empty or completely cover rain barrels; remove old tires; empty plant saucers, buckets, and other water holding containers; keep rain gutters clear.
