FAQs

What does GAT mean?

GAT stands for Gravid Aedes Trap, specifically designed to target egg-laying female Aedes mosquitoes, including Aedes albopictus (Asian tiger mosquito) and other mosquito species. Unlike bug zappers or chemical repellent products, this passive trap works at night and during the day by attracting egg-laying mosquitoes seeking breeding areas without using attractant or BG-Sweetscent.

What does BG-GAT do for mosquito control?

It targets tiger mosquitoes that are looking for a place to lay their eggs. Each egg-laying female that is trapped can eliminate 50-100 offspring (mosquito larvae) from the next generation and prevent potential disease transmission from virus-infected mosquitoes. Using Biogents mosquito traps and BG-GAT, you can definitely control the mosquito numbers at your house and outdoor spaces.

Does the BG-GAT require power consumption?

The BG-GAT tiger mosquito trap does not need any electrical power at all.

Where do they lay their eggs? And how many do they lay?

Each female mosquito lays between 30 and 300 eggs. Culex lays their eggs in "pods" on the surface of the water. Tiger mosquitoes lay their eggs on a moist substrate at the water's edge. Enhance your mosquito solutions and eliminate breeding sites through the following:

  • Empty or completely cover rain barrels and bird baths
  • Remove old tires
  • Empty plant saucers, buckets, and other water-holding containers
  • Keep rain gutters clear

These strategies prevent mosquito bites in your yard, garden, and home by reducing standing water where larvae develop.

How does the BG-GAT trap prevent mosquitoes from escaping?

The BG-GAT uses sticky cards that prevent captured small flying insects from getting out. Once mosquitoes enter through the black funnel seeking a host to feed on or a place to produce eggs, they become trapped, ensuring a high catch rate without requiring electricity or direct sunlight exposure.

When is the best time to use the BG-GAT trap?

The BG-GAT should be used throughout the mosquito season, especially during summer when tiger mosquito populations peak.
